There are a lot more things going on at a LAN party than just gaming. At any given LAN party there will be alcohol and file sharing. Some of the biggest LAN parties have food, dancing, alcohol, filesharing and bands. At dreamhack the world's largest LAN party, there is an almost rave like atmosphere at all times, minus the alcohol of course. While maybe not true for some of the more serious competitions at the smaller events you will find people showing off their modded and overclocked computers with liquid cooling with all the flashing colored lights.

    LAN parties take place all around the world. Korea, Japan, UK, Europe, Africa and the United states all host major LAN parties. In Korea there is a whole television show dedicated to LAN gaming and marketers have already exploited that venue to reach the younger audience (16-30) instead of traditional TV ads. Sources say that the USA is lagging (no pun intended) behind the rest of the world in this area however we are starting to move in that direction.
